W. I. N. G. S., a Women In God’s Service group at GP, was honored to recently host best-selling author/speaker, Missy Jenkins-Smith. Missy was paralyzed from the chest down as a result of the 1997 Heath High School Shooting.
Ladies from South Central Kentucky were invited to hear how Ephesians 4:32 inspired Missy’s story of forgiveness, to participate in a Q and A session, and enjoy refreshments during fellowship. Many participants left with Missy’s book, I Choose to be Happy: A School Shooting Survivor’s Triumph Over Tragedy. Mrs. Jenkins-Smith promoted gun safety and discouragement of bullying. She feels certain that those two factors played a part in her shooter’s decision to harm others.
Her example of maintaining a positive attitude, while facing the daily challenges of a paraplegic, was a true inspiration to all the ladies in attendance. The source of her positive attitude is the ability forgive the one who caused her paralysis. We’re thankful for her testimony and the blessings she shared with us.
